look after和take care of区别

look （turn one’s eyes in a particular direction ） 把眼睛转到某一个特定方向看 after 在....后

look after 即表示 在某人身体或注意力顾及不到之后特意地看着...

汉语翻译为 照顾

He is good at looking after his own interests.

他很会照顾自己的利益。（无需他人关照）

take care of

care （serious attention or thought ) 密切的注意；审慎的思索

所以尽管take care of 也会翻译成照顾 但从字面也能理解其和 look after在照顾精细程度上是有差别的。

如：Would you please look after my 11 -year old brother tomorrow?

Would you please take care of my 1-year old son tomorrow?

照顾一个11岁的男孩 用look after 就够；而照顾一个1岁的男孩显然需要付出的时间精力和注意力就更多，所以用take care of 就更准确。
